Classmates from the Caribou High School Class of 1945 recently gathered to celebrated their 65th class reunion with a luncheon at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. During the event letters from those classmates unable to attend the affair were read. Gloria (Noyes) Seigers spoke of the memories their class held, as the Second World War was going on throughout their four years of high school. Attending the CHS 65th reunion were, in front, from left: Marion (Doody) Gagnon, Joe Bouchard, Arlene (Pinkham) Sousa, Iver Soderberg and Raphel Guerette. In back are: Linwood Norton, Lorretta (Cyr) Williams, Doris (St. Peter) Pelkey, Lester, Blanche (Belanger) Murphy, Kenneth Habeeb and Gloria (Noyes) Seigers.

Super Supper to benefit Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp PDF  | Print |

The Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp program, a leadership development and drug prevention program of AMHC, will hold a “Super Supper” on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Presque Isle Snowmobile Clubhouse beginning at 6:30 p.m. The supper will feature a buffet of roast beef, chicken and vegetarian lasagna along with vegetables, rolls, drinks and dessert.

Anti-abuse program keeps mission ‘Hope,’ ‘Justice’ key in name change PDF  | Print |

HOULTON — When officials of the Battered Women’s Project changed the agency’s name, they didn’t change the mission. That remains the same — responding to the needs of victims of domestic abuse. Now, renamed as the Hope and Justice Project, the multi-service agency still provides victims of domestic violence with safety planning and resources so they can resume a life free of abuse.

The Hope and Justice Project assists victims of domestic abuse and violence with safety planning and services. Domestic Violence Investigator Lawrence Goff of the Aroostook County Sheriffs Department works with Karan Wotton, a criminal justice advocate who is a liaison between victims and law enforcement. Jamie Cleary, right, is the southern Aroostook outreach advocate who also works directly with clients seeking legal remedies in abuse situations.

Troop 184 helps celebrate BSA’s 100th Birthday PDF  | Print |

On July 29 at 3 a.m. 10 Boy Scouts, belonging to Troop 184 in Caribou, 8 adults (Scoutmasters and volunteers) and one Girl Scout, (whose brother is a Troop 184 member and whose Mom, a Caribou Girl Scout Leader and Dad, an Institution representative from the Caribou Rotary Club) boarded the green 1992 International school bus — turned Boy Scout transportation — heading out to the National Boy Scout Jamboree to be held at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia.

Boy Scout Troop 184 in Caribou had the experience of a lifetime as they were able to view up-close the National Boy Scouts of America Monument in Washington, D.C. The local Scouts attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of BSA, and while traveling they were able to tour Gettysburg and historical sites in Washington, D.C. Participating in the trip were Keith Draper, James Doucette, Alex Murchison, Kyle Tibbetts, Marc Sturzl, Andrew Wasson, Danny Powers, Nolan Powers, Dustin DeMerchant and Ben Poitras. Also Shara Draper, Vaughn Keaton, David Belyea, John Powers, Kirk Tibbetts, Tim Sturzl, Rick Wasson, Mark Draper and Claudette Draper.
