WASHBURN — Make a Difference Day is Oct. 22 this year. The quilting group called Stitchin’ and a Givin’ from the Washburn area is hosting a full day of quilting at the Washburn Trailrunners Clubhouse at Station Road in Washburn to mark the occasion.

Washburn’s history book entitled “150 years of Memories,” will be available for sale at the Caribou Historical Center and Museum on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1033 Presque Isle Road (Route 1), Caribou. These collectable editions will be sold from noon to 4 p.m. The cost is $20 per book.
The 181-page bound edition covering local events from 1861 to current times, including many photos, will be an heirloom treasure for generations to come. The perfect holiday gift, as well as a fine addition to any home library, “150 Years of Memories” provides an accurate overview of life in Washburn over the past 150 years including a wide array of stories covering local life and a concise history of Washburn’s business and community milestones. |

WASHBURN — Patricia “Pattie” Aho, acting commissioner of Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection, was in Aroostook County recently, visiting several businesses and getting a firsthand look at two cleanup projects — one in Wallagrass involving a gasoline spill earlier this year and another in Washburn at the former McCain Foods processing plant.
