WOODLAND — Winter Carnival celebrated its 53rd year in Woodland on Saturday, and the community made sure the annual event was celebrated in style with a day filled with snowy races, competitions and excitement — the town even has a new King and Queen of Winter Carnival.

WOODLAND — While the rest of the country will be observing Groundhog Day on Thursday, Feb. 2, Woodland will be awash with Woodchuck Pride that day with two Winter Carnival traditions — the time honored speaking contest to determine who will be crowned Winter Carnival king and queen and the fun, new tradition in its second year, the wood-chucking contest; these two popular events set the stage for the Winter Carnival on Saturday, Feb. 4 starting at 8:45 a.m.

Students at the Woodland Consolidated School were very busy during the month of November. Under the direction of Cindy Privette, school librarian, a Mystery Book of the Week program was held throughout the month, during which each day a clue was given to the students during morning announcements. Each week a different class chose a mystery book and created the clues.
